Go therefore and make disciples of all nations
Matthew 28:19
Local and international missions are essential to the life and witness of the church because they reflect Christ’s call to love our neighbors and make disciples of all nations. Local missions allow the church to directly meet the needs of the surrounding community—whether through service, outreach, or evangelism—demonstrating the love of God in practical ways. By investing in local missions, the church strengthens its relationship with the community, provides hope and resources to those in need, and becomes a visible example of Christ’s presence in the world. This local engagement also deepens the faith of church members, as they live out the gospel through acts of compassion and service close to home.
International missions, on the other hand, extend the reach of the church beyond cultural and geographical boundaries, reminding believers of the global scope of God’s kingdom. Through supporting missionaries, partnering with churches abroad, and engaging in cross-cultural ministry, Christians participate in fulfilling the Great Commission. International missions expose the church to diverse expressions of faith, fostering unity in the body of Christ while highlighting the richness of God’s work in different nations. Together, local and international missions not only advance the gospel but also cultivate a spirit of generosity, humility, and obedience within the Christian community, ensuring the church remains outward-focused and faithful to its calling.
